Mr. Muhammad Nurul Alam Chowdhury, CGA, joined South Asia Insurance Company Limited as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on 11 October 2023. Prior to assuming this position, he served as the Additional Managing Director of Islami Insurance Bangladesh Limited.
A renowned insurance professional, academician, and columnist, Mr. Chowdhury brings over 36 years of extensive experience in the non-life insurance sector. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served with leading insurance companies including Eastern Insurance Company Limited, Meghna Insurance Company Limited, and Islami Insurance Bangladesh Limited. His professional journey spans a wide range of functional areas, including Finance & Accounts, Human Resources & Administration, Underwriting, Internal Audit, and Marketing.
Mr. Chowdhury has successfully held several key leadership positions, including Company Secretary, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and other senior management roles. His broad-based expertise and strategic leadership have earned him a respected position within the insurance industry.
He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with Honours in Management from Jagannath University, Dhaka. To further enhance his professional competence, he completed numerous specialized training programs and received certifications from the Bangladesh Insurance Academy (BIA), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). His training and certifications cover diverse subjects such as Taxation, VAT, Accounting, Corporate Governance, Conventional Insurance, and Islamic Insurance.
Mr. Chowdhury is also a regular contributor to national newspapers, where he writes on insurance-related issues. His articles and opinion pieces have been widely appreciated by industry leaders and stakeholders. In addition, he frequently participates in television talk shows, sharing his expertise and contributing to the advancement and development of Bangladesh’s insurance sector.
Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Chowdhury has enriched his global perspective through participation in numerous international seminars, conferences, and workshops. He has visited more than 27 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Canada, Japan, Australia, and several European nations.
Known for his leadership qualities, social commitment, and philanthropic activities, Mr. Chowdhury is actively involved in various social and community organizations. He serves as the Chairperson of Golamganj Digirpar Jame Mosjid and Shaforpur Baitul Karim Jame Mosjid. He is also the Region Chairperson (HQ) of Lions International, District 315 A1, Bangladesh, and an Executive Committee Member of the Bangladesh Insurance Forum (BIF).
In addition, he is a Life Member of Sonagazi Somity, Feni Somity, Feni Club Limited, and Banasree Society, Dhaka.
Born on 14 January 1963 into a respected Muslim family of “Pir Shaheber Bari” in Sonagazi, Feni, Mr. Chowdhury is widely admired for his integrity, humility, and charismatic personality. In his personal life, he is blessed with his wife, one son, and two daughters.
